Therapy is delivered in two ways; the type of treatment is chosen randomly as part of the research study.

Women Group Alcohol Therapy

Small Group Therapy

Group therapy with the guidance of a trained therapist allows women to interact with other women seeking abstinence and share personal issues in an atmosphere of trust and compassion. Emphasis will be on learning skills to cope with alcohol and other life problems.

Woman Alcohol Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy allows women to discuss their particular problems in confidential private sessions with a trained and compassionate therapist.   Emphasis will be on learning skills to cope with alcohol and other life problems.

 

What the Women's Treatment Project offers:

  • Confidential outpatient assessment
  • Treatment of alcohol problems based on research-proven techniques
  • Therapists who specialize in treatment alcohol problems.
  • Two pre-treatment evaluation sessions
  • 12 weekly individual or small group therapy (all women) sessions
  • Payment for participation in the research aspects of the program
  • 3 research follow-up contacts after treatment is over

Requirements necessary to be eligible:

  • Have a drinking habit or problem you want to change
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be willing to comply with research requirements
